Christian Ministries Help To Feed Millions All Around The World

Hunger, defined as a food scarcity or shortage, is a worldwide problem leading to malnutrition. Recently, there has been a move to include obesity as a form of malnutrition. One of the causes of world hunger is poverty and high food costs. No one knows just how many people worldwide are hungry or food insecure.

Heifer Project International was started in the 1940′s by Church of the Brethren relief worker Dan West. He was handing out milk rations to children when he realized that they needed a cow more than a cup. This revelation has shaped Heifer Project International’s operating practices ever since. Each family who receives an animal from the Heifer Project is asked to “pass on the gift” by donating at least one of that animal’s offspring to another family, continuing the cycle of support.

Bread for the World is another Christian organization working to end hunger worldwide.

These are just two examples out of many. Together, the efforts of all Christian organizations worldwide feed millions around the world through both direct relief and by providing a means of support. Every church food pantry also has a part in this struggle to follow the Christian call to feed the hungry.
